May 2015 n Performance & Hotrod Business n 41 PHB: What professional accomplish- ment are you most proud of, Chris? CP: I have a few things that I'm proud of. Turning wrenches and building race cars that have won many races on a profes- sional level is very rewarding. So is build- ing a business that has dominated in many levels of racing. C&R holds a very special place in rac- ing. The past 25 Indy 500 winners and series champions have had something that came out of C&R's shop. The past 24 NASCAR champions in all three major series have had components from C&R Racing. We've had parts on most NHRA, World of Outlaws and sports car rac- ing championship-winning cars. Cars in Formula 1, the Baja 1000, 24 Hours of LeMans, Sebring and many major race series have had C&R parts. Not many, if any, companies can lay claim to that. PHB: What's your next big goal to achieve? CP: I won't stop until we dominate the high-performance aftermarket cooling sys- tem business like we do in racing. That's our focus, and we won't stop until we're on the top. I'm really enjoying this business and learning more about it every day. I also see the off-road portion of the aftermarket as a huge piece of business and we are going after that. We are building the most efficient Jeep Wrangler radiator on the market and are looking forward to expanding more into that segment. PHB: What's your advice for speed shops seeking long-term success in the performance aftermarket? CP: Product knowledge. Without a doubt, (that's) the most important focus. PHB: Chris, you've had a remarkable career and it's incredible how your com- pany touches so many uniquely different segments of motorsports. In addition to all the accomplishments already mentioned, I think our readers would find it interest- ing to know that you were inducted into the Indianapolis 500 Old Timers Club, were one of the founders of the Indiana Motorspor ts Association (IMA) and worked with Gov. Mitch Daniels to get it started, and founded the International Motorsports Industry Show (IMIS) and served as the primary shareholder. You are also credited with creating the "True Grit" award. This $10,000 award is presented to the crew chiefs or dedicated mechanics for both the Indianapolis 500 and the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. True gearheads everywhere owe you a debt of gratitude for everything you have done for our industry. Malco Products, Inc. | Annandale, Minnesota, U.S.A. | | © 2015 SEMA Award Winner!
