For Ott, that discovery opened up a new world of business for ATD of Cleveland, which now installs wraps for commercial fleets and dealerships on a regular basis. "Most dealerships have a few commercial accounts on the fleet side," Ott says. "In fact, one dealership actually has a couple of outfit companies that they purchased and are doing more graphics for outside customers. I work with them to provide what they need." Another new business angle Ott has discovered is having the ability to design, size, and cut window tint for his clients. His customers call with the order details, including make and model information, and Ott does the rest. "It makes it so much easier for them when the tint arrives ready for installa- tion," Ott says. "That's what customer service is all about. I try to never say 'no,' but sometimes I may have to offer up an alternative." The biggest challenge of running a one- man shop, says Ott, is learning how to grow the business, while also taking care of existing customers. That's where online services, like Constant Contact, and email list services help Ott stay in front of his customers. "It's impor- tant to have a way to put your name out there in front of people," Ott says. "Fortunately my customers are calling me, so I don't have to do much in the way of sales. But I know that if you start neglecting them, somebody new will come along to take them away. That's just business." The key to longevity in the restyling business, Ott says, is to keep learning while remaining flexible enough to change with the times. "I keep myself open to new things and I'm always willing to learn," he says. "The ATD of Cleveland has increas- ingly performed work for local auto dealerships, as well as wrapping fleet vehicles on a contract basis for other com- panies that need the help.
