"When choosing to open a social media account, ask yourself two questions: One, do I have time to be present and not allow this account to go dormant; and two, do I have content and a relevant voice to use this platform in the way it is intended to be used," suggests Newman. LIKE VERSUS DISLIKE Opening accounts and keeping them fresh is one thing, behaving in a proper manner is quite another. A business profile should not be treated like a personal profile. Certain behaviors, statements, and views simply have no place on a business social media account. Let's start with what a business should do. "Be authentic… be original… be responsive… be consistent… and do what works," recommends Dallman. All of these actions combine to show that you care about your customer and are excited to be in the awards business to help them out. Newman draws particular attention to interacting with your audience. "Interact with your social community, share relevant and useful information, (and) network with others in your industry, especially if you offer different services that are useful to your end customers," she emphasizes.
