Meanwhile, he adds, the heat press is often placed in a larger warehouse space due to the amount of space required and heat generated by large-format presses. Larger size presses also often require a 220V outlet. WHAT AND WHERE TO SELL Since sublimation transfers lend them- selves to a wide variety of products, deco- rators can truly tap into a large number of niches, and the potential for crossover markets is much greater. Within the deco- rated apparel category alone, a handful of subcategories include all-over prints and cut-and-sew operations, which until recently was mostly restricted to sports apparel. Today, Jeffrey-Andersen explains, the cut-and-sew market can include every- thing from sports uniforms to higher end fashion, lifestyle brands, and other gar- ments like jeans. Other soft goods that make perfect companions to sublimated apparel include items like ties, bags, hair bows, backpacks, and socks. With non-apparel and hard goods, the list is large, but a few popular items include: Soft signage (this includes signage for outdoor and indoor applications) Mugs/drinkware Photo panels (panels come in sizes as small as a desktop-friendly picture frame, to larger versions for wall hangings that can be used as high-end art for home or business installations) • Awards • Coasters • Koozies • Personalized magnets Buyers can talk to a dealer to get an even longer list of products to sublimate on, but the main benefit to remember is the uni- versal quality of goods like the ones listed above. Ellston uses the sublimatable mug as a prime example. "The sublimation mug is as old as sublimation itself and can be used as a promotional item to help brand a com- pany, customized for the tourism industry for the gift shop, or end up as a Christmas gift with a photo of the grandkids." Ultimately, if a business owner adds sublimation to their lineup, they can trans- form from being a trophy shop or screen print house to a full-service shop where their customers can turn to for all of their personalization and promotional needs. Kavanagh sums it up: "When you offer one-stop shopping for your customers, you give them more value and build a better relationship, ensuring not only larger sales but repeat business."
