S I G N & D I G I T A L G R A P H I C S • June 2018 • 39 One of the major players in the flag market is Los Angeles-based AAA Flag & Banner, a full-service design, print and installation firm. The company started as a "mom-and-pop" shop more than over 40 years ago and has since grown exponentially, expanding its range of services for clients in a variety of industries, including entertainment, sports, corporate events and real estate. Past clients include The Walt Disney Company, HBO, Macy's, and the NFL. "We have tried to keep AAA Flag & Banner on the cutting edge of innovation," says Craig Furst, company president. "Over the years we have also embraced change in our culture as we've continued to expand." Well known for many of their large projects over the years, the shop has starred at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival over the last three years as well as taken on the gigantic task of printing and installing all the flags and banners along the route and at City Hall for the San Francisco Giants World Series Victory Parade in 2014. "With this huge cause for celebration, the city of San Francisco planned a spec- tacular parade to celebrate the Giants third World Series in five years. The only catch? Everything had to be decorated in just 48 hours. Our team jumped into action to wrap 11 buses and four trollies, install banners along the entire parade route, and give City Hall a complete Giants-branded makeover," he recalls. He says there are pros and cons of dye-sub versus direct-to-print versus screen. "Screen has the ability to use specialty materials and inks, such as metallic, glitter, neon, post coatings that typically cannot be produced on a digital print device very effectively, if at all. Obviously paper transfer has the highest quality to offer but direct is more efficient and cost effective. Our Roland printer is one of the few digital devices that actually can print metallic colors, and is the main reason we purchased their equipment."
